What we Believe

We believe in living out our Christian faith as effectively as possible, making an impact with those who do not know the great news about Jesus Christ.

As orthodox evangelical Presbyterians we subscribe to Kupu Whakapono - the statement of faith for the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa which you can find here:  https://www.presbyterian.org.nz/for-ministers/worship-resources/confession-of-faith.

We believe scripture is the inspired written word of God which holds supremacy in our teaching.  We believe that scripture is the story of God's redemptive plan for all of creation and that Jesus' time on earth - his life, death and resurrection - was the culmination of that plan and of all of human history.  We seek to understand the world through the story and person of Christ as we look forward with hope to his return.

We follow Jesus and so central to the way we work are the Great Commandment and the Great Commission:

‘love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind… love your neighbour as yourself’ (Mt 22:37-40).

‘go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name
of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey
everything I have commanded you’ (Mt 28:19-20).

At GPC we want to foster great discipleship.  We do this by drawing closer to God and getting to know Jesus better.  We want to allow God to transform our lives so that they look more like Jesus'!  This is not just for our own sake - but so that we can live lives which will prompt the people around us to ask questions about us and engage in faith-filled conversations.  We hope to be always open to being led by the Holy Spirit to share our knowledge and love of God , inviting others into a life-giving relationship with Jesus too. We believe that you need that dual purpose in discipleship - always seeking to grow in your faith whilst always seeking to grow the Kingdom of God - the two go hand in hand.

We also believe that everyone is welcome in God's Kingdom and also in our church.  We are a diverse bunch of people all united in our belief in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. You would fit right in!
