Learn about Jesus
There is a place within us that is never satisfied until we know God. Often we are unaware why, but deep down our hearts are restless for him. No matter what we do to fill the gap we are never be satisfied until we find God.
God delights in knowing us
However there is a problem. Though God delights in us there is a barrier between him and all people. It’s called sin. We all miss the mark, falling short of God’s design for humanity. Since the first humans rebelled against God sin has being part of our human condition, passing down from generation to generation to today. We do not have to go far to see the consequences of this separation from God. In the news, among those we know and even in our own lives we see that sin destroys.
God isn’t mad at us
The Good News is that God wants to break this barrier down. Not wanting separation or the consequences to be permanent God set in motion a rescue plan. A plan that frees us from the grip of sin, providing forgiveness for all time.
This plan is summarized in the Bible. John 3:16 tell us, “God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life”.
God loved us so much he sent Jesus on a rescue mission
Some 2,000 years ago Jesus came and lived amongst us. While with us he showed us his Father and the way into his open arms. He also showed us the power of sin’s hold and how much it cost to break it. For Jesus, the only sinless human, died on the cross in our place. If there were any other way, God would have taken it. But there wasn’t and Jesus died
Jesus death on the cross opens the way to knowing God
Yet on the third day Jesus was raised from the dead. Death and sin were defeated on the cross. Now we can be put right with God. Salvation is freely offered to all those who believe Jesus, turn from their sins and ask him to be their Lord (ruler and guide).
Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Remember, God is love. He wants the best for you and loves you more than anyone else ever has or ever could. This love is transforming, and His forgiveness is complete. This love is yours when you invite him into your life.
Come as you are
God is waiting with open arms. God will transform you and make you a new person in Him. You will find the deep satisfaction you’ve always longed to have. There is no need to put off his gift of salvation. There is no need to clean yourself up or pass a test or anything like this. You can take the first step right now by saying this prayer.
Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life (take a few moments to ask his forgiveness for anything particular that is on your conscience). Please forgive me. I now turn from everything that I know is wrong.
Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free.
Thank you that you offer forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit. I receive that gift. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.
Thank you. Lord Jesus. Amen.
What now ?
If you have prayed this prayer then you have begun the adventure of following Jesus. It is important to tell someone to help underline your decision. Often it is after we tell someone that it becomes a reality to us. Tell a Christian you know what you have done or contact us. We would love to hear from you.
Reading the Bible (the Gospel of Mark is a good place to start) and talking to God in prayer will build a close relationship with him. Also join a lively church. We need others to help us learn about Jesus and follow him – it is also a lot more fun.
